Jeb Bush may have been a spectacular governor; I don\u2019t really know. \u00a0So far as I can tell, he\u2019s trying to play the Jon Huntsman of the 2016 election, with an \u201cI\u2019m better than all of you because I can Speak Truth to Power,\u201d even though, in this case, the Truth is \u201cyou\u2019re all a bunch of idiots\u201d and the \u201cPower\u201d is the grassroots conservative Republican. \u00a0But that doesn\u2019t really matter.<\/p>\n
The very fact that Jeb Bush\u2019s brother and father have been president disqualifies him.<\/p>\n
Oh, sure, it\u2019s not in the constiutition. \u00a0But it might as well be. \u00a0It\u2019s a danger to our democracy. \u00a0It puts us in the third world category of countries where power is passed on through political dynasties. \u00a0For Bush to contemplate this further speaks to the power concentrated in a small, wealthy donor base, and speaks to his disregard for ordinary Americans and the long-term well-being of the country.<\/p>\n
Is it unfair? \u00a0It\u2019s just as fair or unfair as the restriction that the president must be a natural-born citizen. \u00a0Back when Schwarzenegger was governor of California and everyone was all exited about him, there was talk that maybe we should get rid of this prohibition. \u00a0But even if Jeb Bush were beloved by everyone, to elevate one man, and say, \u201cthis man is the one man who we sorely need, who has the answers to everything, and no one else will do,\u201d is just as mistaken on the Republican side as the Democrats were in elevating Obama to such near-Godlike status. \u00a0And here the need to stay clear of political dynasties outweighs anything Jeb Bush might bring to the table.<\/p>\n
Mr. Bush: \u00a0use your talents elsewhere. \u00a0Be an advisor, supporter, fundraiser, donor to the candidate of your choice. \u00a0Rally your supporters around the causes you support. \u00a0But President? \u00a0No. \u00a0Sorry. \u00a0That\u2019s closed to you. \u00a0Have the good grace to accept it. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
