Go read Ann Althouse<\/a>, who\u2019ll be updating with commentary on the opinion later, I\u2019m sure, then come back here to give me your opinion on the opinion. \u00a0I don\u2019t know enough about the whole process and the extent to which it\u2019s legit to use \u201cintent\u201d (as interpreted after-the-fact, after seeing the consequences) to be able to determine whether the opinion is appropriate or a cowardly bowing to politics and\/or imposition of the Justices\u2019 personal preferences.<\/p>\n

My instinctive reaction? \u00a0Disappointment. \u00a0As I\u2019ve said (and if I would just buckle down and get my posts tagged, you\u2019d be able to see), the status quo ante<\/em> isn\u2019t really an option, but Obamacare has so many problems that a do-over would have been a good thing. \u00a0But in the meantime, time to work \u2014 and then hope for dry weather this afternoon for a promised paddleboat outing with the kids.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m also not going to read the particulars of the decision, at least not for the time being, and am definitely not going to engage in this wild \u201cwas Roberts blackmailed?\u201d speculation.<\/p>\n

Yes, it\u2019s possible that Roberts chose to make a decision that violated all legal precedent because he feared the political consequences of ruling that subsidies for federal exchanges were unconstitutional. \u00a0It\u2019s possible that I\u2019m a coward for not wanting to Know The Truth. \u00a0Maybe it\u2019s the middle-child, conflict-avoider in me \u2014 maybe I should write a devastating rant about How Politicized the Supreme Court Has Become in the hopes that it goes viral (the dream of every aspiring blogger). \u00a0But I\u2019m not going to. \u00a0Instead I\u2019m going to go tuck my kids in, finish up a bit of work, and read a book.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
