Case One: \u00a0Bob Dold. \u00a0Republican candidate for the north suburban Chicago House seat; he had won election four years ago, and was defeated by Democrat Brad Schneider two years ago. \u00a0Now he\u2019s trying to get his seat back.<\/p>\n

Conventional wisdom for that district is that it\u2019s voters are Republican, but very liberal on social issues, so Dold\u2019s campaign commercials have been emphasizing that he\u2019s pro-gay-marriage and abortion-rights.<\/p>\n

But the Democrats have decided that the best way to wage their campaign is by painting him as a Tea Party Republican. \u00a0He isn\u2019t, but that doesn\u2019t stop them.<\/p>\n

Case in point:<\/p>\n

<\/iframe> \nCase Two: \u00a0Bruce Rauner.<\/p>\nI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve seen a single positive ad touting Pat Quinn\u2019s successful tenure as governor. \u00a0Instead, he\u2019s running one extreme anti-Rauner ad after the next.<\/p>\nHere in Illinois, several years ago, the Democrats raised the income tax rate \u201ctemporarily.\u201d \u00a0Not surprisingly, they\u2019ve now decided that it is vital to the well-being of Illinois residents to make this tax permanent. \u00a0Rauner, not surprisingly, has said that he won\u2019t extend this rate, so for a while Quinn ran an ad on the radio with an announcer telling listeners that Rauner was going to cut school funding by some intolerable percentage, laying off massive numbers of teachers, in order to \u201cgive himself a tax cut.\u201d<\/p>\nNow he\u2019s gone even further. \u00a0Rauner, among his other business transactions, owned a chain of nursing homes for a time, which were later found to have neglected patients. \u00a0The connection between Rauner and these cases is tenuous at best, but that hasn\u2019t stopped Quinn from running an ad with a husband of a patient whose death is attributed to nursing home neglect (the veracity of which I can\u2019t comment on), with the message that Rauner is a grandma-killer. \u00a0I can\u2019t seem to find this on You Tube, but you get the picture.<\/p>\nIck.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Case One: \u00a0Bob Dold. \u00a0Republican candidate for the north suburban Chicago House seat; he had won election four years ago, and was defeated by Democrat Brad Schneider two years ago. \u00a0Now he\u2019s trying to get his seat back.
