I don\u2019t really expect that any of my readers would say \u201ctrue\u201d to these questions (except in the trivial sense that you can have \u201cpeace\u201d solely by means of one group simply not fighting\u00a0back), but I\u2019d bet that, Obama, and the rest of the \u201cnegotiators\u201d now hailing the agreement\/giveaway view Israel as an inconvenience, and would be happy to wish it away.<\/p>\n
So what if Iran\u2019s leadership persists in announcing that Israel will be wiped off the map? \u00a0Says Obama, \u201cit wouldn\u2019t be my fault.\u201d \u00a0\u201cI didn\u2019t launch the missiles that cause Tel Aviv to be in flames.\u201d \u00a0(Or set loose terrorist\/militant groups, secure in the knowledge that we\u2019re protected from retaliation.)<\/p>\n
But here\u2019s what I don\u2019t get:<\/p>\n
No one believes that the new agreement will deter Iran from getting a bomb; at best it delays it. \u00a0From what I understand, even Obama recognizes this.<\/p>\n
Obama says he cares about his legacy. \u00a0But surely he understands that his \u201clegacy\u201d is more than just having enough supporters when he leaves office to be able to fundraise his way to the Obama Museum. \u00a0If chaos erupts in the Middle East (well, worse than the present ISIS chaos), even if the museum curators pretend otherwise, Obama\u2019s legacy will be \u201che paved the way for Iran to get nuclear weapons.\u201d<\/p>\n
So the only mindset that makes sense is that he is truly convinced that Iran is fully of good people at heart. \u00a0But even this requires willful disregard of Iran\u2019s sponsorship of terrorism.<\/p>\n
Is he as dumb as a bag of rocks on this one? \u00a0 Or is this just one more step in disengaging from the Middle East, with the desire to pull away from even sanctions enforcement, imagining that we can just walk away and shrug off whatever happens in the Middle East as \u201cnot my problem\u201d?<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
