So it appears, based on mass today, that someone from the parish reads the ol\u2019 blog \u2014 whether they knew they were the subject of last week\u2019s post<\/a> or just thought the situation was familiar.<\/p>\n

OK, who am I kidding?<\/p>\n

But nonetheless, they announced today, both in the form of a bulletin announcement and a \u201cnote from the pastor\u201d read by the weekend-presider priest before the homily (and we finally got a proper homily today, too), that the capital campaign, at least in the form of pleading for donations, is now officially ended. \u00a0Sure, they\u2019d love it if we all kicked some more cash into the pot, but they\u2019ll do what they can with what they have.<\/p>\n

I also had the impression that the church was also just a bit closer to being full today \u2014 whether because enough of the sporadic attendees decided to show up for All Saint\u2019s Day or, more likely, because a certain number of those who usually attend the later service decided that, what with the extra hour of sleep, they\u2019d get an earlier start to the day.<\/p>\n

And as an incidental comment, since I griped in the past<\/a> about the rudeness of leaving early, I should mention, anyway, that the substantial majority of the congregation at my church have by now been reasonably enough trained to stay until the end of the song, at least, as long as they only do two, rather than three verses.<\/p>\n

In any event, I\u2019m asking myself, what next? \u00a0How does the parish recover from the very recent and very significant drop in attendance?<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
