Started with the death of a friend, my husband\u2019s good friend, husband and father of 4, assistant scoutmaster, beloved by all.<\/p>\n
And then \u2014 well, Dad was in the hospital, for a gallbladder problem. \u00a0Instead of being released, he\u2019s now at a rehab facility because of too many days in bed. \u00a0And I\u2019m once again reminded that, for both Mom and Dad, their daily routine needs to change, but we\u2019re at a loss as to how to get them to change, especially at a distance. \u00a0And there are only so many times we can encourage them to make a move to retirement community that\u2019ll offer social and fitness activities \u201con-campus\u201d rather than spending day after day after day with nothing to do other than the community center lunch, then home again to take a nap and watch \u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d.<\/p>\n
And a project for work took much longer than planned, keeping me from getting to other work, and meaning that, while I type this, I\u2019ve got the spreadsheet open on my other monitor, nagging at me to finish up, while my husband and kids are at a scout activities and the middle school dance.<\/p>\n
But I keep checking my twitter feed. \u00a0Paris! \u00a0City of light! \u00a0The death toll is continually updated \u2013 the latest tweet says 158. \u00a0Speeches are made: \u00a0Obama says, \u201cdon\u2019t jump to conclusions,\u201d Hollande says \u201cwe will defeat the terrorists.\u201d \u00a0Is this France\u2019s \u201c9\/11\u201d? \u00a0Or was that the Charlie Hebdo attacks, or the train attacker? \u00a0 \u00a0There\u2019s a state of emergency, the borders are declared closed. \u00a0But no one\u2019s figured out how to stop this, and the lack of any border controls, with migrants streaming into the EU endlessly leaves those nations ever-more at risk.<\/p>\n
And I turned the TV on: \u00a0Top Gun. \u00a0Yeah, and the scene just after Goose died.<\/p>\n
