Women: \u00a0Would you rather be changing, in\u00a0a women\u2019s locker room in a public place, alongside an individual who \u201cpresents\u201d as a man, to use the terminology, but who, let\u2019s say, has a woman\u2019s parts underneath? \u00a0Or with an individual who \u201cpresents\u201d as a woman, but who has a penis?<\/p>\n
Men: \u00a0Would you rather be changing, in\u00a0a men\u2019s locker room in a public place, alongside an individual who \u201cpresents\u201d as a woman, to use the terminology, but who\u00a0has a penis? \u00a0Or with an individual who \u201cpresents\u201d as a man, but with no penis?<\/p>\n
I suspect it matters much less to men than to women, so specify which applies if it\u2019s not obvious. \u00a0And I\u2019m speaking specifically of locker rooms, e.g., at the public pool or at a health club, not just who pees in the stall next to you.<\/p>\n
And it also seems to me that this has become an issue where it wasn\u2019t before, not just because of a push for Transgender Rights, but because of the growing claim that one\u2019s gender is purely determined by one\u2019s self-identification. \u00a0After all, it used to be that the term was \u201ctransexual\u201d and the assumption was that the person would \u201cchange sex\u201d through a series of operations with the end result of looking passably like the sex one wished to \u201cchange into.\u201d \u00a0Now, the new idea is that surgery is unnecessary, and from what little I understand, it\u2019s more common for such an individual to have \u201ctop surgery\u201d but not \u201cbottom surgery\u201d; what\u2019s more, the new push is for states (or federal governments, in other countries) to provide official recognition of the altered sex, upon request, without requiring \u201cproof\u201d or physical changes.<\/p>\n
