So I\u2019m the new committee chair for Cub Scouts. \u00a0The leaders will meet on Thursday. \u00a0In the meantime, I\u2019ve read through the requirements, and it turns out that the pack has seemingly been giving out rank advancement without regard to whether the rank requirements have been met or not. \u00a0Not only has the pack not been tracking advancement, but the ranks require such things as \u201cattend a pack campout\u201d (which hasn\u2019t happened for a good five years) and \u201cperform a skit and a song at a pack campfire,\u201d and it\u2019s likewise been years since there have been any skits or songs performed anywhere, let alone at a campfire.<\/p>\n
Perhaps these requirements are relatively new, with the changes that became effective in 2015, so it\u2019s just a matter of pushing the pack leadership to implement these for 2016.<\/p>\n
But, if you were in my position, what would you do?<\/p>\n
Would you make a stink about last year\u2019s patches and whether they were legitimately earned? \u00a0(Additional detail: \u00a0there was not a rank advancement ceremony last year, so the boys still need to be given their patches.)<\/p>\n
Would you insist that we need to schedule a campout for this coming year?<\/p>\n
What would you do if the other parents say, \u201cno, no one wants to camp, and if you require it, they\u2019ll leave the program\u201d?<\/p>\n
