I believe this isn\u2019t paywalled: \u00a0\u201cDatabase: Check your school\u2019s measles immunization rate<\/a>\u201d \u2014 a database that allows the reader to look at vaccination rates by school, for Illinois, as reported to, and then by, the\u00a0Illinois State Board of Education.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, there appear to be problems with this data: \u00a0for each school, there are data points on total enrollment, total vaccinated, number with religious or medical exemptions, numbers with \u201cvaccinations scheduled,\u201d and a remaining category of \u201cnot vaccinated.\u201d \u00a0Is this category one that the Tribune has calculated based on the preceding numbers, meaning that the data is bad? \u00a0Or does this mean that, in fact, even if a parent neither vaccinates nor presents an exemption, the kid is, in fact, not actually excluded from school \u2014 that the vaccination requirements aren\u2019t actually enforced?<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the categories of Vaccinated and Not Vaccinated are sortable, but the exemptions aren\u2019t. \u00a0Still instructive, though.<\/p>\n

Incidentally, the CDC reports that 95.5% of Illinois kindergartners were vaccinated. \u00a0This survey says that 98.3% were \u2014 which would seem to suggest that the majority of the unvaccinated kindergartners due ultimately get the vaccine, so as to boost the rate for schoolchildren as a whole. <\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
