I just sat down to my computer and looked at the list of posts \u2014 four drafts, one right after the next, with unfinished thoughts. \u00a0So I\u2019m going to try to finish these, or at least offer my rough draft ideas to the world. \u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
OK, no one\u2019s said that \u2014 yet. \u00a0But sometimes I think that\u2019s where we\u2019re headed. <\/p>\n
Yesterday, one of my pro-gay-marriage facebook friends posted a link where \u2014 in the comments to the article was the statement that \u201cgay marriage opponents keep saying that gay marriage should rightly be banned because children need a mother and a father. \u00a0But everyone knows that the courts have consistently rejected the idea that marriage has anything to do with children. \u00a0Study after study has shown that having two male, or two female parents has no impact on a child\u2019s well-being.\u201d \u00a0This was in the context of the Michigan judge\u2019s decision that the state constitutional amendment defining marriage as one-man, one-woman was a violation of the U.S. constitution. \u00a0The judge summarily dismissed the state\u2019s witnesses as not credible, but agreed with the \u201cno difference\u201d studies. <\/p>\n
I\u2019ve said this before and I know I\u2019m just repeating myself in writing this again, but: <\/p>\n
How can we convince men \u2014 and women \u2014 not to procreate unless they\u2019re married, when at the same time, our conventional wisdom increasingly says, when it comes to gay marriage (and \u201csingle moms by choice\u201d), that it doesn\u2019t matter? <\/p>\n
That\u2019s as far as I got. \u00a0The problem is that those of us who believe that children should have married parents, are starting to be in the minority, relative to those who actively believe that\u2019s irrelevant, or those who don\u2019t really care. \u00a0Effectively their creed is \u201ca child needs a father like a fish needs a bicycle\u201d and it\u2019s so much an article of faith that evidence to the contrary doesn\u2019t have a chance of persuading them. \u00a0So what do you do? \u00a0And how far will current trends go?<\/i><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
