Your food and wine costs are going to rise when Donald Trump takes office<\/a>.\u201d \u00a0Why? \u00a0Because illegal workers make up 16% of all farmworkers. \u00a0Deport them and the cost for labor will go up, and, hence food and wine prices will increase. \u00a0Why just \u201cfood and wine\u201d? \u00a0Why not other beverages? \u00a0It\u2019s not a very well-written article, but you\u2019ve seen this before: \u00a0this is a job \u201cAmericans won\u2019t do\u201d but illegal workers will because have a better work ethic.<\/p>\nBut think about this: \u00a0we\u2019re meant to be shocked at the prospect of higher prices, and back off demands that illegal workers be deported, or that illegal immigration end with border security and workplace enforcement.<\/p>\n
At the same time, though, it seems to be exactly the same voices who say that we need to have a $15 minimum wage, and improve working conditions, and if that causes the prices of everyday purchases to increase, well, it\u2019s the right thing to do in the name of social justice.<\/p>\n
So which is it?<\/p>\n
