Trump was asked that question<\/a>, and he answered oddly: \u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t like heroes, I don\u2019t like the concept of heroes.\u201d \u00a0He then rambles on about his father in a very Trumpian sort of way so it\u2019s a mystery what he meant by not liking heroes. \u00a0Did he mean that he objects to the idea that we should hold some people up as role models? \u00a0Is he thinking of kids treating a sports star as a \u201chero\u201d? \u00a0The notion of putting someone up on a pedestal?<\/p>\n

But at the same time \u2014 well, to be honest, I\u2019ve certainly read about plenty of people who have done extraordinary things. \u00a0They\u2019ve created, they\u2019ve innovated, they\u2019ve saved lives at the expense of their own, they\u2019ve stood up for justice. \u00a0Heck, in the Catholic tradition they\u2019re called saints. \u00a0But do I live my life with reference to these people? \u00a0Do I place any one person as my \u201chero\u201d and try to model my life after theirs, of even have one or a small number of people that I call to mind? \u00a0No, not really.<\/p>\n

Do you? \u00a0What would you answer, if asked that question? \u00a0Or would you use the fall-back answer that so many people give, of \u201cmy mother\/father is my hero\u201d?<\/p>\n
