Megan McArdle had a piece <\/a>on Andrew Sullivan (whom, by way, I\u2019ve never actually read, but I\u2019m told went a little crazy with Palin Derangement Syndrome) and his decision to stop blogging, and on the past and future of blogging, in general. \u00a0Multiple of the commenters pointed out that Megan\u2019s blog has a particularly engaging comment section, with a diversity of opinion, a fairly civil discourse, and with commenters who contribute in interesting ways. <\/p>\nIt occurs to me that Ann Althouse\u2019s blog is similar \u2014 and that both women actually interact with readers through the comments. \u00a0We all know, of course, that her interaction in the comments gained her her husband. <\/p>\n
Are there similar blogs that I\u2019m not aware of? \u00a0There are the various blogs at National Review online, and the \u201cblog-like\u201d sections of Slate \u2014 but the comments there aren\u2019t nearly as interesting, and in neither case do the bloggers\/article authors interact with the readers. \u00a0And, of course, Glen Reynolds added comments a while back, but doesn\u2019t himself comment, and it doesn\u2019t really fit with the nature of his blog for him to do so, anyway.<\/p>\n
And that has me wondering:<\/p>\n
Is it just a coincidence that both McArdle and Althouse (or Megan and Ann \u2014 I\u2019m never quite sure whether to think of bloggers as being on a first-name or last-name basis \u2014 though, of course, the very nature of \u00a0my \u201cblog identity\u201d means that you all are on a first-name basis with me) are women? <\/p>\n
Or is there something about women\u2019s blogging, even when it\u2019s about politics and (more for McArdle than Althouse) business and the economy (as opposed, that is, to the Mommy Blogging genre) that means that the nature of their blogging is different?<\/p>\n
Or do I just gravitate towards female bloggers without really being aware of it, and need to expand my horizons? \u00a0(See above: \u00a0never read Sullivan.)<\/p>\n
(Side note: \u00a0is it \u201cfemale bloggers\u201d or \u201cwomen bloggers\u201d? \u00a0Proper grammar says \u201cfemale bloggers\u201d because \u201cwomen\u201d is a noun, not an adjective, though it\u2019s increasingly used that way. \u00a0Women CEOs vs. male CEOs, and the like.)<\/p>\n
