See, it sounds cheesy even saying it.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

But, anyway, the Chicago Tribune is running a new editorial series, \u201cA New Plan for Chicago\u201d and they\u2019re inviting Trib readers to submit proposals<\/a> which will have the chance of being published in some fashion or another.\u00a0 They\u2019re calling on proposals to be practical and concrete rather than vague and theoretical, with the goal of shaping a new Plan of Chicago (playing off Daniel Burnham\u2019s physical plan for the city) to address the city\u2019s problems in order to save it from becoming another Detroit.<\/p>\n

The topics planned for their editorial series include the public schools, the jobs gap, crime and criminals, and a vaguely-labeled \u201cwhen families struggle.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no deadline specified.\u00a0 And their list of people they anticipate will respond include someone running a foundation, a Neighborhood Watch block captain, a college professor \u2014 so an amateur pundit doesn\u2019t have much of a chance.\u00a0 But it\u2019s an interesting project, something more goal-focused than collecting links to all the appalling ways Obama is implementing the Washington Monument strategy, for example.\u00a0 So I\u2019m excited.\u00a0 (It\u2019ll also test my ability to follow through on a project outside of work and its tangible deadlines and consequences.)<\/p>\n
