<\/a><\/div>\nThat\u2019s this year\u2019s effort \u2014 a collaboration between dad and son, of course, though my 2nd grader did more of this than has sometimes been the case for our past years\u2019 Pinewood Derby cars (3 kids = lots of cars).<\/p>\n
Idea: \u00a0well, we had bacon as part of dinner last night and were running short on time.<\/p>\n
Cutting to size: \u00a0Dad.<\/p>\n
Adding the shape: \u00a0Dad + Son, taking turns, following Dad\u2019s instructions.<\/p>\n
Sanding: \u00a0Both, taking turns.<\/p>\n
Color: \u00a0Son, with his oil pastels, sealed up with Mod Podge.<\/p>\n
Chiseling out space for and inserting weights on the bottom, sanding the axles, and installing the wheels: \u00a0Dad.<\/p>\n
But we\u2019re all quite pleased with how this turned out, although it\u2019s rather underweight and won\u2019t have much of a chance in the Speed competition. \u00a0And now what I\u2019m curious about is how the cars in the no-holds-barred parent competition goes.<\/p>\n
But if you\u2019re looking for a helpful hint: \u00a0I was really pleased with the oil pastels. \u00a0They wouldn\u2019t work for something more precise, but they were much easier to apply than coats of spray paint, and there was no waiting for anything to dry. \u00a0I think the Mod Podge also did a decent job of sealing, and dried a lot faster (I used the hair dryer) than the polyurethane we\u2019d used in the past.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
