Something reminds me of what I\u2019ve missed\u2026<\/p>\n

Can the past change the present? Could something be sent to us? Can the present change the past? Could something be sent back? What would happen? Would it change anything? Can anything be changed? We live in a sort of arrogance with regard to these questions. We assume we know and that is all. However, spirituality has never been about knowing. There is more than what was. There is more than what is. Something always leads to nothing. Nothing always leads to something. In the something is everything and nothing.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Where you there? The question is pivotal. We assume that absence is ignorance and ignorance is absence. We assume incorrectly. In order to know a secret of the universe, I decided to travel back in time. I was there when Jesus was crucified. It wasn\u2019t how I knew it. I was there when Jesus was placed in the tomb. It wasn\u2019t how I remembered it. I touched the risen Jesus. It wasn\u2019t how I perceived. Then, I traveled back. The journey made me realize that I believe now far more than I did then. Existence seemed to grow with time\u2026or perhaps it was I that grew with time. The mystery of time might be the greatest salvation. The more of it we have the less we know. The less of it we have the more we know. Time is short. God is not. Time is not God. Only God is God. The further we get from certainty the closer we get to God. Divinity will always be a timeless journey beyond the facts of yesterday.<\/p>\n
When I got there\u2026I didn\u2019t know where I\u2019d been. When I got there\u2026I didn\u2019t know where I was. When I got there\u2026I didn\u2019t know where I was going. When I got there\u2026I was just there\u2026the only place I\u2019d ever wanted to go\u2026nothing.<\/p>\n

His work sits at the intersection of justice, radical compassion, and public theology. Dr. Hood holds advanced degrees from Auburn, Emory, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, University of Alabama, Creighton, and Brite Divinity School, among others. He also earned a PhD in metaphysical theology and founded The New Theology School, where he serves as Dean and Professor of Prophetic Theology. Author of over 100 books\u2014including the award-winning The Courage to Be Queer\u2014Dr. Hood\u2019s writings and activism have been featured in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, CNN, and more. A frequent collaborator with men on death row, he sees theology as a shared, liberative act. Dr. Hood has served on the leadership teams of organizations like the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and the Fellowship of Reconciliation. His activism has earned multiple awards, including recognition from PFLAG and the Next Generation Action Network. On July 7, 2016, Dr. Hood led the Dallas protest against police brutality that ended in tragedy. His actions that night saved lives, and his story is now archived in the Dallas Public Library.
