My name is Jen and I like to write about stuff.<\/p>\n

1. I write Catholic stuff.<\/p>\n

2. It\u2019s all Catholic.<\/p>\n

3. I\u2019ve been at this for a while.\u00a0 I write regularly for New Evangelizers<\/a>, CatholicMom.com<\/a>, Amazing Catechists<\/a>, and the Catholic Writers Guild<\/a>. Patheos regulars might recognize me from my smattering of book reviews at the Happy Catholic Bookshelf<\/a>, or my recent contribution to the Rethinking Religious Education Discussion<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4. This is all the intro you\u2019re going to get.\u00a0 It is strange starting a new, blank blog.\u00a0 I figure I\u2019ll just pick up mid-conversation, and you\u2019ll get the hang of it after a bit.<\/p>\n

5. If I insisted that all my friends agree with everything I say and do, I\u2019d either have no friends or very stupid friends.<\/strong>\u00a0 I\u2019d rather have smart, interesting, fun friends.\u00a0 So even if you\u2019re<\/del> I\u2019m terribly mistaken on some point, we can still get along and like each other.<\/p>\n

What does \u201cSticking the Corners\u201d mean?<\/h4>\n

People become Catholic for all kinds of reasons.\u00a0 People only stay Catholic for one reason: Because it\u2019s true.<\/p>\n

When something is true, you can count on it.\u00a0 You can take action.\u00a0 You can do things that would not be possible otherwise.\u00a0 The other week I wrote an essay about how faith is like racing through a tight, sharp corner<\/a>.\u00a0 You can\u2019t waffle around.\u00a0 You can\u2019t do it halfway.\u00a0 You have to look at the big, dangerous thing ahead and commit to it.\u00a0 Do it like you mean it.<\/p>\n

Here<\/a> is a nice technical article about how to corner in a road race, and I bet it\u2019s correct.\u00a0 That article makes my eyes glaze over, but it looks like maybe that\u2019s what I do on a bike.\u00a0 I call it sticking the corner<\/em> because that\u2019s what it feels like when I do it.\u00a0 You\u2019re flying, but there\u2019s a solidity to it.\u00a0 You stick firmly to the road, you\u2019re never off course, never out of control, even though you\u2019re certain that one false move and you\u2019d crash something deadly.\u00a0 I know it works on a bike, because I\u2019ve done it.\u00a0 I know it works on a soul, too.<\/p>\n

Body+Soul = Person.<\/p>\n

The corners in life are going to come at you: Fast, hard, scary.\u00a0 Don\u2019t be afraid.\u00a0 Do it like you mean it.\u00a0 Stick that corner.<\/p>\n
