I don\u2019t expect that under the incoming administration there will be much momentum for requiring young women to register with the United States\u00a0Selective Service<\/a>, but sooner or later sufficient push will come along. \u00a0This is a different topic than \u201cwomen in the military\u201d in general, just as the decision to conscript young men is different than the question of the military having male volunteers.<\/p>\n

When that day comes, the justification for abortion will have just ended.<\/p>\n

What does it mean to volunteer or be drafted by the military? \u00a0It means that your body is not your own. \u00a0It means that you are now a person who sacrifices your\u00a0freedom, safety, and perhaps even your very life, for the good of others.<\/p>\n

This is what mothers do when they conceive and bring forth children: They put their bodies at the service of others. \u00a0To ensure the survival and well-being of her child, the mother sacrifices a measure of freedom and sets aside her own safety, sometimes even to the point of risking her life.<\/p>\n

The argument for abortion is that no woman should have to make such a sacrifice (though often it\u2019s her boyfriend or parents who are coercing the abortion because they don\u2019t want to chip in their portion of sacrifice). \u00a0The courts have ruled, and proponents of abortion-rights insist, that even if you freely chose to engage in intercourse, you have a\u00a0right<\/em> to be spared\u00a0any ensuing pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Gentlemen, try saying, \u201cMy body, my choice,\u201d to the US Government \u2014 whether you volunteered or were conscripted, either way.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not arguing for the draft. \u00a0Nor am I saying that pregnancy is without its risks. \u00a0I am saying that pregnancy, motherhood, is the counterpart to\u00a0the sacrifices men make to provide for and protect their children \u2014 even unto the point of risking their own lives. \u00a0Men and women who volunteer to put themselves in harm\u2019s way in order to serve others \u2014 in whatever capacity \u2014 are undertaking a noble service.<\/p>\n

When the US military starts conscripting women, it will no longer be \u201cMy body, my choice.\u201d It will be, \u201cYour body, our choice.\u201d \u00a0Ironically, motherhood is never, ever, meant to be a forced condition. \u00a0What do we call men who force women to get pregnant\u00a0against their will? \u00a0Rapists.<\/p>\n
