Real Clear Science<\/a> editor Alex Berezow wanted to know after he learned I\u2019d been carded at the Lynden Safeway.<\/p>\nWhat happened was I went shopping for a few groceries this evening and snagged two beers on the way to checkout. The checkout girl asked to see my ID. I was visibly flabbergasted.<\/p>\n
She tried to come up with a reason why the question she\u2019d just posed wasn\u2019t absurd to the nth degree.<\/p>\n
\u201cBetter safe than sorry,\u201d she cliched.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just shocked that you would ask me for ID,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to ask if you look under 30,\u201d she whiffed again.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess,\u201d I said as I gathered the bags and made a concerted effort to avoid rolling my eyes at her.<\/p>\n
