A Letter about Alcohol Consumption

A Letter about Alcohol Consumption

Hi Scot,

You are busy, so I will keep it short. I grew up with a denomination where the use of alcohol is frowned upon. It is not allowed for students at the denominational college (my alma mater) or for pastors.

I am now exposed to a world where there is a broad range of opinions on the issue of the use of alcohol. I recently moved to go to seminary and now I am surrounded by people who drink, and professors who openly talk of their favorite ales. A close friend and my younger sister (who will turn 21 this month) have both come to me for advice. I told them both my initial thoughts, and suggested we look at the Scripture and other resources together on the issue.

I have come across a couple books that I may use, but wondered if you know of any resources on the topic. I value your opinion not only because I respect your work and your blog, but also because I know you come from a conservative background (from One.Life) which means you have inevitably had to deal with the issue. I appreciate any direction you can give me.

Peace…

I will post my response later today… what is your wisdom?
