Donald Miller tells us, and I saw it in his new book To Own a Dragon<\/em>, that he writes his books in coffee shops. But I want to talk about Dave Miller<\/a>\u2018s new CD, for in it he\u2019s got a song he\u2019s written about drinking coffee: \u201cCoffee\u201d the song is called. I\u2019m thinking Donald Miller might like the song. Anyway, I sure do. Makes me feel the way I feel when drinking coffee with a friend.
\nDave Miller, a worship leader I met in Kentucky, has taken an ordinary experience and made it meaningful, or better yet, he brings to light how many of us feel about our coffee-drinking times with friends. The song\u2019s got a catchy rhythm and tune; if I were a coffee producer I\u2019d make \u201cCoffee\u201d background for some commercial.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s one of my favorite places I could be, sitting with my hands around a cup of ground beans, a cup of holy beans.\u201d
\nCoffee time is sometimes confession, sometimes intensification of relationship: \u201ccause the one I see looking back at me sees through my act of humanity, the truth is here and it sets us free, we\u2019re reminded of why we need each other.\u201d
\nDave says he doesn\u2019t want anything fancy at the coffee shop, \u201cjust a straight ahead cup of conversationing\u201d but \u201cmake mine a venti, I\u2019m a talker and my friend is waiting.\u201d
\n\u201cIt\u2019s one of my favorite places I could be,
\nsitting with my hands around a cup of ground up beans\u2026
\nholy water for a tired soul, it\u2019s plain to see, this is where I\u2019m made to go\u2026\u201d
\n\u201cWords like these ought to cost by the hour,
\nit\u2019s like a personal shrink, my very own priest without a collar.\u201d
\nI\u2019ll do two more posts about this CD, for he\u2019s got some interesting things connecting Jesus\u2019 work with our work, and a marvelous song winding together a handicapped person\u2019s life with Jesus\u2019 life.
\nThe lyrics in his CD case don\u2019t have upper case letters, but I\u2019ll give him the benefit of doubt: he\u2019s trying to be artistic. I\u2019ve added them, and he can give me the benefit of the doubt: I\u2019m a \u201cper-fessor.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
