\nWhich emerging leader do you think said these things about evangelism in an emerging context? I will suggest tomorrow that this thinker is paving the path for what I\u2019m calling the \u201cnew evangelism\u201d or the new \u201cEE\u201d.
\nOn the need to re-shape the gospel for a new era\u2026
\n<\/strong>
\n\u201cThe gospel of Christ is one and immutable; the comprehension and expression of it in history has been of infinite variety. No individual, no church, no age of history has ever comprehended the full scope of God\u2019s saving purposes in Jesus Christ.\u201d \u201cIt is a lack of Christian humility to assume that our gospel and the Gospel<\/em> are identical.\u201d
\n\u201c\u2026 the spirit of free enquiry engendered by \u2026 science neutralizes the dogmatic authority with which the church has been accustomed to speak.\u201d
\nIndividualism<\/strong>
\n\u201cWe are emerging from the era of individualism.\u201d So, therefore, it should not surprise if the new generation \u201cfails to be stirred and guided by statements of truth that were adequate to obsolete conditions.\u201d
\nOn spirituality outside the church<\/strong>
\n\u201cIt is not because the religious spirit has failed [today]. It runs surprisingly strong, but it runs largely outside of the churches.\u201d
\nTwo kinds of evangelism today<\/strong>\u2026
\n\u201cThere are two kinds\u2026. The one proclaims new truth, as Jesus did to his nation, or Paul to the Gentiles\u2026 The other summons [others] to live and act according to the truth.\u201d
\nThe ineffectiveness of existing evangelistic models<\/strong>
\n\u201cOur evangelistic calls strikes an invisible wall and comes back in hollow echoes.\u201d
\nOn the wedding of the Church and capitalism
\n<\/strong>
\n\u201cWhen the Christian business man is presented as a model Christian, working people are coming to look with suspicion on these samples of our Christianity.\u201d
\nOn the hope created by reframing the gospel today.<\/strong>
\n\u201cThe tongue of fire will descend on [this generation] and give it great faith, joy and boldness, and then we shall hear the new evangel, and it will be the Old Gospel.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
