We\u2019ve never seen vacation plans that weren\u2019t capable of adjustment. Our walking yesterday wore us out, so we got up a little later and decided to visit a historic (aren\u2019t all villages in Italy that?) village called Santa Margherita just one train stop away. It is connected to Portofino.
\nFirst, we\u2019d be loading pictures into each day\u2019s post but we don\u2019t know how this works well, and the first day we had an iMac, and it didn\u2019t work, so we\u2019ve not tried since. Pictures later.
\nWe spent the morning here, traipsing through three churches: St. James (lavish marble everywhere), a Capucin monastery church, and the church in the square called Santa Margherita. We had our obligatory parma crudo panini for lunch with some (just as) obligatory red wine. The Ligurian taste for dinner meals is for basil pesto with pasta, and this means definite plans for when we return to learn how to make it. The pasta is called Treffia and it is very good, too.
\nThis afternoon we head down to Portofino. The clientele is different: Cinque Terra caters to all; this area seems to be for the upper class folks.
\nWe are limiting ourselves to two gelatos a day. The weather is fine; have no idea how to guess on the temperatures as they use the other system. What I do know is that it is nice to have some warm sun on the water and it is so relaxing for both of us.
