It provides social justice commentary for each lectionary reading. I\u2019ve been able only to dip into it. <!--more|inline--><br>\nSummer is time for denominations to have annual meetings; which means debates; which means depressing news about how Christians can\u2019t find common ground. See <a href=\"http:\/\/krusekronicle.typepad.com\/kruse_kronicle\/2006\/06\/the_pcusa_disse.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Michael Kruse<\/a>. I\u2019ll avoid the SBC\u2019s debate about alcohol, but what is the scoop on the PCUSA and the Trinity? and the sexual fidelity issues decided at the local level? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.markdroberts.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Mark Roberts <\/a>is working through the issues with his customary fairness and biblical rigor.<br>\nBut, I\u2019m encouraged by <a href=\"http:\/\/thegreatgiveaway.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/can-we-avoid-polarizing-debate-while.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">David Fitch\u2019s excellent suggestions<\/a> to Brian McLaren\u2019s previous post. And the <a href=\"http:\/\/jazztheologian.typepad.com\/findingthegroove\/2006\/06\/its_354_am_and_.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Jazz Theologian\u2019s<\/a> early morning yearnings for unity.<br>\nFather\u2019s Day for Veterans. Andrew Perriman on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.opensourcetheology.net\/node\/925#comment\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Am I sure that I\u2019m saved<\/a>?\u201d<br>\nIn the event you are wondering if you are postmodern, this article on jewelry from millennia ago says <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2006\/TECH\/science\/06\/22\/oldest.jewelry.ap\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">evidence proves they were not only biologically but also culturally and cognitively modern<\/a>. That makes us postmodern. Case over.<br>\nSpeaking of postmodern and Emergent, Doug Pagitt announces his next book project: <a href=\"http:\/\/web.mac.com\/pagitt\/iWeb\/PagittBlog\/Doug%20Pagitt%20Blog\/7CDD76DD-7E2F-45F4-BBF6-CBAD88387D2A.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Emergent Manifesto<\/a>.<br>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/biblical-studies.ca\/carnival\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Biblical Carnival<\/a> seeks nominations for blogs about Bible and for separate posts.<br>\n1. We\u2019ve been watching some birds, too, but we\u2019ve not seen anything quite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2006\/TECH\/science\/06\/15\/ancient.birds.ap\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">this old<\/a>. We\u2019ve seen some baby Eastern Bluebird with some protective moms and dads; Killdeer; Northern Oriole; Kingbird, etc. But this ancient Grebe finds its only rival when we see the Great Blue Heron. (The Grebes we spot in the Spring are all up North by now.)<br>\n2. Dale, at <a href=\"http:\/\/trinities.org\/blog\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Trinities<\/a>, has a new blog up on the doctrine of the Trinity. Stop by for a visit if you have time.<br>\n3. Already time for the pollsters to start chatting about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2006\/POLITICS\/06\/19\/poll.presidential\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">who we would not vote for<\/a> and who we would vote for: Senator Clinton gets the most attention here. I\u2019m voting for Stan Hauerwas, just so I could tune in for the daily clips of what he\u2019d say to the media.<br>\n4. I thought the <a href=\"http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/hockey\/nhl\/specials\/playoffs\/2006\/?cnn=yes\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Hurricane <\/a>was a boxer.<br>\n5. If you\u2019ve got some time, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.internetmonk.com\/articles\/D\/depression.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Michael Spencer\u2019s exploration<\/a> (iMonk) of his father\u2019s depression and what he\u2019s learned from it is worth reading.<br>\n6. What\u2019s on your church sign? Check <a href=\"http:\/\/cleave.blogs.com\/pomomusings\/2006\/06\/how_not_to_attr.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Adam Cleaveland<\/a>\u2018s post on a sign he found. No, I don\u2019t think Adam was being unkind; yes, Bro. Jonathan\u2019s our brother. Yes, that\u2019s a way of cutting to the chase of how you see things. No, that\u2019s not how to put grace up front.<br>\n7. For those of you who read novels, here\u2019s a new one to consider by <a href=\"http:\/\/willzhead.typepad.com\/willzhead\/2006\/06\/great_review_fo.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Lisa Sampson<\/a>.<br>\n8. By the time <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanguardchurch.blogspot.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bob Robinson\u2019s<\/a> done at Vanguard, he\u2019ll have a little book in his computer: on kingdom, atonement, and the gospel. He\u2019s about done, and it is a very good series.<br>\n9. <a href=\"http:\/\/drewmoser.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/on-manhood.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Drew Moser<\/a> posts a rapid history of the father image on TV. My father was more like Ward Cleaver, and I supposed I was somewhere closer to Bill Cosby, though I\u2019ve had other moments, too.<br>\n10. A new argument <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2006\/HEALTH\/06\/22\/tattoo.infections.ap\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">against tattoos.<\/a><br>\n11. Mike at <a href=\"http:\/\/eternalperspectives.com\/2006\/06\/17\/becoming-a-missional-mission-church\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Eternal Perspective<\/a> has a 3-part series on the mission of the Church that is worth reading.<br>\nI hate to bring this up at the end, but there is a <a href=\"http:\/\/bookreviews.org\/bookdetail.asp?TitleId=5021\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">good review by Seyoon Kim of Tom Wright\u2019s newest book on Paul<\/a>.<br>\nAnd <a href=\"http:\/\/cawley.typepad.com\/blog\/2006\/06\/book_review_mar.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Kevin Cawley<\/a> has a nice review, with some good comments, of Mark Driscoll\u2019s <em>Confessions<\/em>. (HT: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stevekmccoy.com\/reformissionary\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Steve McCoy<\/a>)<br>\nSports:<br>\nThis just in: John Wesley is now an official Chicago White Sox player. Talk about coming out of retirement. Some will be surprised to hear John Wesley was <em>right<\/em>-handed. I\u2019d have thought he was a lefty. Crafty.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>June 20, 2006 \u2013 Sioux Falls, SD \u2013 The Sioux Falls Canaries are proud to announce that right-handed closer John Wesley had his contract sold to the Chicago White Sox. Wesley will report to Single A Kannapolis of the South Atlantic League. Wesley, 25, was having a terrific 2006 season with Sioux Falls. He was 0-0 with an ERA of 1.42 and six saves. Wesley had collected 15 strikeouts in 12 2\/3 innings pitched and opponents were only hitting .163 against him. In 2005 with the Canaries, John was 5-5 with an ERA of 3.74 and two saves. He had 52 strikeouts in 55 innings pitched. Wesley was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Toronto Blue Jays in June of 2002.
