I am struck by Psalm 119:53: \u201cI am seized with rage because of the wicked who forsake Your teaching.\u201d Why?
\nThe psalmist knows God is gracious, loving and (at the same time) just \u2014 Psalm 11.
\nThe psalmist knows those who know of God\u2019s grace, love, and justice \u2014 in other words \u201cthose who should know better\u201d \u2014 mock God by flaunting God\u2019s justice. Psalm 10.
\nThe psalmist knows he is struggling and fighting to do what is right, in spite of the opposition of those who know better.
\nTherefore, the psalmist erupts in \u201crage\u201d when he realizes what is going on. He labels those who should know better the \u201cwicked.\u201d
\nWhat ticks you off? What I might ask is \u201cwhat sinfulness, what kind of covenant unfaithfulness unnerves you\u201d?<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
