\nAlmost like Genesis 1:1, the Song bursts into creative energy and action. The woman desires her young lover \u2014 almost as if she is thinking about him (even though he\u2019s near her). A woman\u2019s desire for the kisses \u2014 and her comparison of those kisses to the delight of wine because both wine and love intoxicate \u2014 her delight in the fragrance of his perfumes and even more in his very name elevate her into a state of realizing what she\u2019s got in her lover. \u201cNo wonder the maidens love you!\u201d
\nWith all this attraction to the young man, she urges him to take her away \u2014 let us hold hands and run off \u2014 or let him pull me as only a lover can pull his lover. \u201cLet the king,\u201d she says, \u201cbring me into his chambers.\u201d We will enjoy one another so much, she says, that we will end up counting kisses as more delightful than (good) wine.
\nAll of us, she says, adore you (her royal lover) and there are good reasons to adore him.
