At one time many in the more conservative evangelical crowd were totally against blogs, and now they lead the numbers of those who blog. Why do you think this is attractive?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a title=\"Joyce Meyer\u2019s Twitter Page\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/joycemeyer\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Joyce Meyer<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Max Lucado\u2019s Twitter Page\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/maxlucado\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Max Lucado<\/a> and\u00a0<a title=\"Andy Stanley\u2019s Twitter Page\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/andystanley\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Andy Stanley<\/a> were not well known inside Twitter\u2019s offices. But they had all built loyal ranks of followers well beyond their social networks \u2014 they were evangelical Christian leaders whose inspirational messages of God\u2019s love perform about 30 times as well as Twitter messages from pop culture powerhouses like Lady Gaga.<\/p>\n<p>Fifteen percent of adult Internet users in the United States are on Twitter, and about half of those use the network every day, according to a report published this week by the Pew Research Center. But\u00a0Twitter is always looking for ways to add new users. And so, with this new insight, the company sent a senior executive,\u00a0<a title=\"Claire Diaz-Ortiz\u2019s Twitter Page\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/claired\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Claire D\u00edaz-Ortiz,<\/a> on a mission: to bring more religious leaders into the Twitter fold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had looked at different groups, like C.E.O.\u2019s and high-level executives, thinking, oh, do we need to spend more time with them?\u201d she said. \u201cAnd then this religion thing popped up.\u201d\u2026<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Consider this post in April from\u00a0<a title=\"T. D. Jakes\u2019s Twitter Page\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/BishopJakes\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Bishop T. D. Jakes<\/a>:\u00a0<a title=\"The archived tweet on Bishop Jakes\u2019s account.\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BishopJakes\/statuses\/194472872297766914\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cYour words will tell others what you think. Your actions will tell them what you believe.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>His message was forwarded 2,490 times \u2014 just shy of the 2,491 retweets that the pop singer\u00a0<a title=\"Katy Perry\u2019s Twitter Page\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/katyperry\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Katy Perry<\/a> generated the same month with this message to her fans:\u00a0<a title=\"Katy Perry\u2019s Tweet\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/katyperry\/status\/186821141279682562\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cSometimes jet lag makes me feel like a cross eyed crack head #muststayawake.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Both messages performed remarkably well. But there was a key difference: Bishop Jakes has 450,000 followers, while Ms. Perry has 20 million.<\/p>\n<p>Voices less famous than Bishop Jakes also benefit from this \u201cengagement\u201d effect, suggesting that it is driven less by fame than by inspirational content.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Ann Voskamp\u2019s Twitter Page\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/#!\/AnnVoskamp\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ann Voskamp<\/a>, a mother of six who lives on a farm in Ontario, is one of those voices. Her book\u00a0<a title='The Web Site for the book, \"One Thousand Gifts\" ' href=\"http:\/\/onethousandgifts.com\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u201cOne Thousand Gifts,\u201d<\/a> about moments of everyday grace, started a Twitter conversation that is still going 18 months after its publication.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Amy O\u2019Leary: No one bit on this: Why do you think Christians are so \u201cin\u201d to social media?
