Some of this I anticipated yesterday but will now state.
\n1. Missional Jesus calls for a discipleship that is rooted in who missional Jesus is \u2014 Messiah \u2014 and how missional Jesus carries about his mission \u2014 via the cross. Discipleship takes it shape from christology. This is loaded stuff, friends, and it deserves books to expound.
\n2. Missional Jesus\u2019 mission is \u201cchurch-shaped.\u201d
\n3. Missional Jesus permits his followers to get things wrong and leads them to deeper perceptions of who he is and what he is doing.
\n4. As the heart of missional Jesus\u2019 life was self-denial \u2014 which is what love for others is \u2014 so also the heart of missional discipleship is self-denial.
\n5. Missional Jesus says it is worth giving up everything \u2014 including one\u2019s life \u2014 for this missional Jesus\u2019 missional life.
\nMatt. 16:24 Then Jesus told his disciples, \u201cIf any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 25 For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?
