Atlanta (CNN)\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 A top-tier rabbi and expert in Jewish law and ethics is now under the microscope for what many see as his own ethical transgressions.<\/p>\n
Rabbi Michael Broyde was outed last week for having created a fake identity that he reportedly used for about two decades.<\/p>\n
Broyde has long served on America\u2019s highest Modern Orthodox rabbinical court and was said to be a finalist to become the next chief rabbi of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
Just last month, he was\u00a0named one of America\u2019s top 50 rabbis<\/a>\u00a0by Newsweek magazine. Broyde is a professor of law and religion at Atlanta\u2019s Emory University.<\/p>\n
Under the pseudonym Rabbi Hershel Goldwasser, Broyde cited and promoted his own work, wrote and weighed in on articles, gained membership to a rival, left-leaning rabbinic organization and engaged in otherwise privileged online conversations\u00a0by way of\u00a0its Listserv.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
