The chps sweeps through many ideas with names and quotations, but I can only give a sampling here and I ask this question:<!--more|inline--><br>\nIs is possible, in this age, not to acknowledge the legitimacy of some of these ideas?<br>\nHe begins with the standard view: pomo is skepticism about grand narratives so that everything is local and particular. Some pomo folks, hard postmodernity, is deconstructive as it unmasks the power behind truth claims.<br>\nThe softer kind \u2014 that which is picked up in some, if not most, postconservatives \u2014 is that all truth claims emerge from a narrative context. And here\u2019s a very important point, and one that the critics of both emerging and postconservatism fail to appreciate and opt instead for a bludgeoning instrument:<br>\n\u201cknowledge may be relative even if truth is not\u201d (127). \u201cThis is not relativism but recognition of the relativity of perspective inherent in all human thinking.\u201d \u201cTruth may be objective, but knowledge never is.\u201d<br>\nEverything about postconservatism flows out of this conviction.<br>\nOlson speaks about the Evangelical enlightenment that bought into the foundationalist thinking of Descartes and the Enlightenment, and he points to Strong and Hodge and Carl Henry.<br>\nOlson points to Stan Grenz and John Franke (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FBeyond-Foundationalism-Shaping-Theology-Postmodern%2Fdp%2F0664257690%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1208011907%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Beyond Foundationalism<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\"><\/em>) as an example of evangelicals who are postfoundationalist. I would add to this now John Franke\u2019s book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FCharacter-Theology-Introduction-Nature-Purpose%2Fdp%2F0801026415%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1208011979%26sr%3D1-1&amp;tag=jescre-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Character of Theology<\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=jescre-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" style=\"border:none !important;margin:0px !important\"><\/em>.<br>\nRodney Clapp, too: \u201cevangelicals need to acknowledge that all their truth claims are contestable and that their confidence lies in the power of the Spirit and in faith rather than in some neutral and objective rationality divorced from the Christian perspective\u201d (133).<br>\nThe alternative?<br>\n1. Proper confidence instead of foundationalism.<br>\n2. Perspectival nature of all human knowledge.<br>\n3.
