<\/span>We didn\u2019t finish this verse last week, so let\u2019s look at it again:<\/p>\nPeacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
A few translations, including the NASB and ESV, are wooden and clumsy, but this TNIV captures the Greek well (Greek: \u03ba\u03b1\u03c1\u03c0\u03bf\u03c2 \u03b4\u03b5 \u03b4\u03b9\u03ba\u03b1\u03b9\u03bf\u03c3\u03c5\u03bd\u03b7\u03c2 \u03b5\u03bd \u03b5\u03b9\u03c1\u03b7\u03bd\u03b7 \u03c3\u03c0\u03b5\u03b9\u03c1\u03b5\u03c4\u03b1\u03b9 \u03c4\u03bf\u03b9\u03c2 \u03c0\u03bf\u03b9\u03bf\u03c5\u03c3\u03b9\u03bd \u03b5\u03b9\u03c1\u03b7\u03bd\u03b7\u03bd).<\/p>\n
The truly wise teachers pursue peace in peaceful ways. <\/i>This is how I would sum up the point of this verse. Again \u2014 the wise person, in contrast to those who pursue strife through self-ambition, has the goal of peace and gets there through peaceful means (not violent means).<\/p>\n
\nSome pursue peace \u2014 misunderstood as the absence of strife \u2014 through
\nsuppression (and they get the absence of strife); some through violence
\n(and strife goes away); some through manipulation behind the scene (and
\nthey get the absence of strife); and some through deception \u2014 and they
\nget it too. The problem is that peace is not the absence of strife but
\nthe conditions of justice and love. Genuine peace comes only through
\nGod\u2019s genuine approach: peaceful means only permit genuinely peaceful
\nends.<\/p>\nThis is the same as Jesus: \u201cBlessed are the peacemakers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anger, James told us in James 1:20, does not yield peace or God\u2019s righteousness\/justice.<\/p>\n
Isaiah 32:17: \u201cThe effect of righteousness will be peace,
