<\/span>I\u2019ve gotten enough pushback on using \u201cObamacare\u201d for the health care proposals that I\u2019m changing this to the more cumbersome \u201chealth care reform,\u201d but for me \u201cObamacare\u201d is not about a top-down heavy-handed left-wing attempt to socialize our country, but instead simply the health care proposals that Obama is guiding as President. Having said that, Douthat\u2019s new piece in the NYTimes<\/i> <\/a>makes a potent point about where the center of power lies in this debate:<\/p>\n\u201cIn reality, the health care wrestling match is less a test of Mr.
\nObama\u2019s political genius than it is a test of the Democratic Party\u2019s
\nability to govern\u2026.<\/i><\/p>\nIf the Congressional Democrats can\u2019t get a health care
\npackage through, it won\u2019t prove that President Obama is a sellout or an
\nincompetent. It will prove that Congress\u2019s liberal leaders are lousy
\ntacticians, and that its centrist deal-makers are deal-makers first,
\npoll watchers second and loyal Democrats a distant third. And it will
\nprove that the Democratic Party is institutionally incapable of
\ndelivering on its most significant promises. <\/i><\/p>\nYou have to assume
\nthat on some level Congress understands this \u2014 which is why you also
\nhave to assume that some kind of legislation will eventually pass. <\/i><\/p>\nIf it doesn\u2019t, President Obama will have been defeated.
