A letter from Jeremy Berg, who sometimes writes posts for this blog\u2026 I\u2019m very keen to hear what you do when Jehovah\u2019s Witnesses come to your door. Can you tell us what you feel, what you want to do, what you do do?<\/i><\/div>\n

I had two very nice Jehovah\u2019s Witness women show up at my door this morning. \u00a0I never \u00a0
quite know how to approach these encounters. \u00a0I think these encounters are especially awkward for pastors\/Bible teachers who are equipped to engage them in theological debate but don\u2019t feel like that is the context (standing at the door freezing). Plus, they are usually just well-meaning laypersons who might not be able or wanting to actually be challenged themselves. \u00a0<\/p>\n


<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n
Do I just play dumb, hide the fact that I\u2019m \u00a0\u00a0a pastor, take their pamphlets and send them on their way with a \u00a0smile? \u00a0Other uncertainties include: Is it appropriate to invite them inside? \u00a0Can they accept and come in? \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n
(I think Mormons<\/a> are a different story here \u2014 more willing to sit down and chat.) \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n
Is it wise when they are two women and a guy home alone? \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n
Of course, behind all of these questions is my own sense of obligation to evangelize and try to convert them to the \u201ctrue faith.\u201d \u00a0Should I feel guilty when I \u00a0miss an opportunity to \u201cwitness\u201d back to them \u2014 even when I don\u2019t believe door-to-door evangelism is a very effective or wise approach to personal evangelism?\n

So, I would love to hear how others in the Jesus Creed community handle such encounters. \u00a0Thoughts?<\/p>\n
