T. Wright a couple of weeks ago.  I\u2019ve been slow in getting to these, with so many other interesting topics on the agenda \u2013 but both are worth a look and a conversation. The first <a href=\"http:\/\/biologos.org\/blog\/meaning-and-myth\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Meaning and Myth<\/a> deals with Genesis 1-3, the second is on <a href=\"http:\/\/biologos.org\/blog\/evolution-the-enlightenment-and-worldviews\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Evolution, the Enlightenment, and Worldviews<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"margin: 0pt auto 20px; text-align: center;\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/jesuscreed\/imgs\/Wright%20ds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"356\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Watch these videos (below) and lets start a conversation.<br>\n<em><strong> <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>What role does our worldview play in our understanding and interpretation of scripture?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his discussion of <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biologos.org\/resources\/nt-wright-on-adam-and-eve\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Genesis<\/a><\/strong><\/em>, Wright suggests that we have problems with issues that are tangled together, theological, political, and cultural. We need to step outside of our preconceptions and look at scripture on its own terms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"N.T. Wright on Adam and Eve\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3BP1PpDyDCw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A couple of brief quotes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Genesis 1, 2, and 3, are some of the most explosive chapters \u2013 and when anthropologists talk about myth what they mean is not an untrue story. What they mean is a story that is full of power for how we understand ourselves individually, for how we understand ourselves as a community, for how we understand what the human project is all about. \u2026 we need to lighten up about these words and maybe find some other words because I do think it matters that something like a primal pair getting it wrong did happen. But that doesn\u2019t mean I am saying that therefore Genesis is a kind of positivist, literal, clunky, history over against myth.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2026<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We have to read Genesis for all its worth. And to say either history or myth is a way of saying I\u2019m not going to study this text for all its worth. I\u2019m just going to flatten it out so that it conforms to the cultural questions that my culture today is telling me to ask.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ideas of cultural influence and worldview are dealt with from a slightly different direction in the other video, <em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/biologos.org\/resources\/nt-wright-on-our-worldview-and-scripture\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Worldview and Scripture<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. In this video Wright suggests that we live in a worldview that insists that God and the world are widely separated from each other \u2013 an enlightenment worldview. At one extreme this worldview denies the existence of God, but the response within the church also buys into the enlightenment view.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"N.T. Wright on How Our Worldview Impacts Our Reading of Scripture\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HhOPcFcHW3M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The idea that God simply steps in from time to time to perform a miracle is an error of the enlightenment worldview. The conception that a natural mechanism \u2013 be it evolution, plate tectonics, or meteorology \u2013\u00a0 eliminates God from the picture is an error of the enlightenment worldview.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If we take off the spectacles of our worldview and see God as all in all \u2013 not as generally distant, stepping in to perform specific miracles from time to time \u2013 many of the conflicts between science and faith may disappear. At very least we can focus on the questions that matter not on misleading details.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>What do you think?
