Well-written review.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">Meanderings in the News<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">1. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/02\/14\/opinion\/14kristof.html?em\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">It\u2019s all in your head<\/a>! (That is, your politics is in your hard-wiring.)<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">2. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/02\/14\/AR2010021404283.html?nav=hcmodule\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>On climate change politics<\/b><\/a>: \u201c<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">Climate researchers say the errors do not disprove the U.N. panel\u2019s central conclusion: Climate change is happening, and humans are causing it. Some researchers said the U.N. panel\u2019s attitude \u2014 appearing to promise that its results were infallible, and reacting slowly to evidence that they were not \u2014 could undermine the rest of its work.\u00a0What\u2019s happened here is that there\u2019s an industry of climate-change denialists who are trying to make it seem as though you can\u2019t trust anything that is between the covers\u201d of the panel\u2019s report, said Jeffrey Kargel, a professor at the University of Arizona who studies glaciers. \u201cIt\u2019s really heartbreaking to see this happen, and to see that the IPCC left themselves open\u201d to being attacked.\u201d<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">3. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/02\/14\/magazine\/14texbooks-t.html?em\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>Textbooks for Texas public schools<\/b><\/a> are a debatable issue \u2014 big time.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">4. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2244198\/pagenum\/all\/#p2\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>Does the internet hurt?<\/b><\/a> \u201c<span class=\"Apple-style-span\">There is, in fact, a host of research that directly tackles these issues. To date, studies suggest there is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.liebertonline.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1089\/cpb.2009.0217\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">no consistent evidence<\/a>\u00a0that the Internet causes mental problems. If anything, the data show that people who use social networking sites actually tend to have better offline social lives, while those who play computer games are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www3.interscience.wiley.com\/journal\/123207287\/abstract?CRETRY=1&amp;SRETRY=0\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">better than nongamers<\/a>\u00a0at absorbing and reacting to information with no loss of accuracy or increased impulsiveness. In contrast, the accumulation of many years of evidence suggests that heavy television viewing does appear to have a negative effect on our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/15262103\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">health<\/a>\u00a0and our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/17766526\" target=\"_blank\" class=\" decorated-link\" rel=\"nofollow\">ability to concentrate<\/a>. We almost never hear about these sorts of studies anymore because television is old hat, technology scares need to be novel, and evidence that something is safe just doesn\u2019t make the grade in the shock-horror media agenda.\u201d Speaking of which: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.parentdish.com\/2010\/02\/11\/nielsen-teens-sends-an-average-of-10-text-messages-per-hour\/?icid=main%7Cmain%7Cdl5%7Clink4%7Chttp:\/\/www.parentdish.com\/2010\/02\/11\/nielsen-teens-sends-an-average-of-10-text-messages-per-hour\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>teenagers text on average 10x\/hour<\/b><\/a>!<\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">5. Changes in Iran toward a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/02\/15\/AR201002150106%0A4.html?hpid=topnews\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>military dictatorship<\/b><\/a>?<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">6. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/USA\/2010\/0212\/What-s-with-these-snowstorms-Natural-patterns-plus-randomness\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>The winter to remember<\/b><\/a> \u2014 random chaos.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">7. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.firstthings.com\/onthesquare\/2010\/02\/lincoln-and-justice-for-all\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>Guelzo on Lincoln<\/b><\/a> on justice.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">8. <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/speakeasy\/2010\/02\/15\/the-beatles-michael-jackson-and-u2-make-vatican-newspapers-list-of-best-albums-bob-dylan-snubbed\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><b>The Vatican weighs in on tops of the pops<\/b><\/a>.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: left\">9.
