<\/a><\/span>Paul gets to explain his gospel to the Jewish community in Rome, and here\u2019s what he said:<\/p>\n\n\n28:23<\/span>\u00a0They set a day to meet with him, and they came to him where he was staying in even greater numbers. From morning until evening he explained things to them, testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets<\/b>.\u00a028:24<\/span>\u00a0Some were convinced by what he said, but others refused to believe.\u00a028:25<\/span>\u00a0So they began to leave, unable to agree among themselves, after Paul made one last statement: \u201cThe Holy Spirit spoke rightly to your ancestors through the prophet Isaiah\u00a028:26<\/span>\u00a0when he said,<\/p>\n

<\/p><\/span><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
\nPaul, in response, jabs them with Isaiah, something that was at the center of Paul\u2019s theology and in his letter to Rome: why his fellow Jews did not embrace Jesus as Messiah befuddled Paul but he found an answer for it in Scripture. And nothing is more central to Paul\u2019s missional theology than his reading of Scripture. To the Jews first, and then to Gentiles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\u2018Go to this people and say,<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
\u201cYou will keep on hearing,<\/i><\/b>\u00a0but will never understand,<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
and you will keep on looking,<\/i><\/b>\u00a0but will never perceive<\/b>.<\/i><\/p>\n
28:27<\/span>\u00a0For the heart of this people has become dull,<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
and their ears are hard of hearing,<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
and they have closed their eyes,<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
so that they would not see with their eyes<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
and hear with their ears<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
and understand with their heart<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n
and turn,<\/i><\/b>\u00a0and I would heal them<\/b>.<\/i>\u201c\u2018<\/p>\n
28:28<\/span>\u00a0\u201cTherefore be advised that this salvation from God has been sent to the Gentiles; they will listen!\u201d<\/p>\n
