writes<\/a> that \u201cevangelicals\u2026don\u2019t really get\u201d that they should be \u201cfar more worried about their own America-worship than they are about Glenn Beck\u2019s theological errors.\u201d\u00a0 Similar claims are easy to find at the Huffington Post, or Relevant, or any number of blogs.<\/p>\nYet I am seeing terms thrown around rather brazenly, terms like\u00a0Christianism<\/em>,\u00a0Americolatry<\/em>,\u00a0theocracy<\/em>and so forth.\u00a0 Even \u201ccivil religion\u201d seems to be employed by some of these writers as a synonym (which it is not) for idolatry.\u00a0 Many of these writers believe that the Religious Right deeply wounded the Christian cause in America, so their concern is understandable.\u00a0 They warn of a dangerous admixture of politics and religion.\u00a0 Yet many (perhaps all) would defend\u00a0other <\/em>ways of intermixing politics and religion, such as the abolition and Civil Rights movements or contemporary social justice movements.<\/p><\/blockquote>\nHe has a number of questions, but this is one we could discuss here too:<\/p>\n
