The Dems are divided on this one, and I wonder where you stand. Hoyer says No, Pelosi says Yes.<\/p>\n

Washington (CNN)<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer<\/strong> said comedian Stephen Colbert embarrassed himself last week when he testified before Congress.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think his testimony was not appropriate,\u201d Hoyer told FOX News Sunday host Chris Wallace.<\/p>\n

Colbert, the popular host of \u201cThe Colbert Report\u201d on Comedy Central, spoke in character before members of a House judiciary subcommittee Friday to bring attention to the conditions facing undocumented farm workers. Colbert often spoke sarcastically, prompting laughter in the hearing room and drawing Republicans\u2019 scorn.<\/p>\n

Colbert was invited to testify by the subcommittee chairwoman, California Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren.<\/p>\n

Hoyer said on FOX that the testimony \u201cwas an embarrassment for Colbert more than for the House.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat he had to say I think was not the way it should have been said,\u201d Hoyer said. \u201cIf he had a position on the issues he should have given those issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hoyer said this was his \u201cpersonal opinion.\u201d His views differed from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi<\/strong>, who called Colbert\u2019s testimony \u201cgreat.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s an American. He comes before the committee. He has a point of view,\u201d Pelosi said Friday. \u201cIt can bring attention to an important issue like immigration. I think it\u2019s great.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
