But, here\u2019s some stuff I found this week that may interest you, too. I admit I\u2019ve got a little too much here, but there was lots to catch up on and still plenty to read.<!--more|inline--><br>\nBegin by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desiringgod.org\/news_events\/dgm_news\/2006\/20060106_cancer_announcement.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">praying for John Piper<\/a>, who has prostate cancer. And then pray for John Frye\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/jesustheradicalpastor.blogspot.com\/2006\/01\/ministry-to-ukraine-2006-new-year.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ministry in the Ukraine<\/a>.<br>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.backyardmissionary.com\/2006\/01\/dont-be-fooled.html#comments\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Authentic Hamo<\/a>, that\u2019s how I see it.<br>\n1. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbcbaptistpress.org\/bpnews.asp?ID=22406\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Ed Stetzer has categorized the emerging movement<\/a> into three groups: relevants, reconstructionists, and revisionists. Here\u2019s his concern with the latter: \u201cRevisionists are questioning (and in some cases denying) issues like the nature of the substitutionary atonement, the reality of hell, the complementarian nature of gender, and the nature of the Gospel itself.\u201d OK, this is not a well-written sentence, but this is (to use the language of a Southerner \u201can odd box of chocoloates\u201d). Jamie Arpin-Ricci\u2019s series and the comments on homosexuality. <a href=\"http:\/\/emergentvoyageurs.blog.com\/478437\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Part 1<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/emergentvoyageurs.blog.com\/484662\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">part 2<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/emergentvoyageurs.blog.com\/489304\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">part 3<\/a>.<br>\n3. Anybody who fines <a href=\"http:\/\/tallskinnykiwi.typepad.com\/tallskinnykiwi\/2006\/01\/buying_airline_.html#comments\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">airfares for $5.99 <\/a>deserves a round of applause, as has Andrew Jones, TSK.<br>\n4. Are you full of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2006\/US\/01\/07\/word.contest.ap\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">truthiness<\/a>\u201d or facts? Word of the Year. Truthiness is what memoirists write when the facts don\u2019t quite make the point well enough. Sometimes postmodernists prefer truthiness, and sometimes they have a point.<br>\n5. Here is the problem for too-tightly connecting sports and education; <a href=\"http:\/\/sportsillustrated.cnn.com\/2006\/football\/ncaa\/01\/07\/bc.fbc.marcusvick.pro.ap\/index.html?cnn=yes\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">let\u2019s hope Vick learns<\/a> something from Maurice Clarett. Strike that; he\u2019s already gotten in trouble again.<br>\n6. From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-next-wave-ezine.info\/issue85\/index.cfm?id=8&amp;ref=COVERSTORY\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Emergent Room of Tony Jones<\/a>: What\u2019s up in 2006 for Emergent?<br>\n7. A <a href=\"http:\/\/purplepastor.com\/2006\/01\/08\/in-search-of-jesus-part-1\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">purple pastor<\/a> with some purple answers and hopes. Thanks for that one, Tom. And, Tom\u2019s got a <a href=\"http:\/\/purplepastor.com\/2006\/01\/10\/in-search-of-jesus-part-2\/\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">nice reflection <\/a>on how Jesus has been captured by our culture.<br>\n8. Following the \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emergentkiwi.org.nz\/archives\/emerging_church_postcards_aotearoa_new_zealand.php#more\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">postcards at the edge<\/a>\u201d from various emerging leaders: HT Steve Taylor.<br>\n9. Karen\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/spearszacharias.bravejournal.com\/entry\/16084\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">last letter to her daughter<\/a> before the wedding; very emerging; very good.<br>\n10. There is some good interaction at <a href=\"http:\/\/darkcoffeethoughts.blogspot.com\/2005\/12\/reflections-on-chapter-1-gospel-as.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Dark Coffee<\/a> about Kevin Vanhoozer\u2019s book, <em>The Drama of Doctrine<\/em>. The book is big, and my own posts about it were brief; but Dark Coffee folk are blogging their way through this important study.<br>\n11. Brad Bergfalk\u2019s got a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nakedreligion.com\/?p=149\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">good rant<\/a>.<br>\nOn the James Frey flap, <a href=\"http:\/\/spearszacharias.bravejournal.com\/entry\/16194\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">see Karen Zacharias,<\/a> who has herself written a memoir.<br>\nNow that Pat Robertson <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2006\/US\/01\/12\/robertson.apology\/index.html\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">has admitted an indiscretion<\/a>, for which I am grateful, I hope he changes his mind on prophecy and learns how to read a good prophetic metaphor. A good place to begin is with G.B. Caird\u2019s <em>Language and Imagery of the Bible<\/em>, or D. Brent Sandy\u2019s <em>Plowshares and Pruning Hooks<\/em>.
