Lenten Reflection #18: Jesus Advocates<\/h2>\n

\u201cMy little children, I am writing you these things so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate<\/a><\/span> with the Father\u2014Jesus Christ the Righteous One.<\/span>\u201d (1 John 2:1<\/span>, HCSB) \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Jesus didn\u2019t just pay for the penalty of our sins. He also pleads our case as our Advocate for the pardon<\/a> we receive from sin. Satan is called the Accuser, which is like the prosecuting attorney<\/a>. Jesus is our Advocate, which is like our defense attorney. They both argue before the Ultimate Judge God the Father. Because Jesus has already paid for the penalty of our sins as it says later in 1 John 2, He can better argue for us. He is the best Advocate because He knows us. He also knows the judge better than the prosecutor. Therefore, Jesus is better able to plead our case before the Father. Jesus knows what is in the heart of the Father. He knows what needs to be said to allow God the Father to forgive us as His children. When we come to Him asking for a pardon, He becomes the best lawyer to plead our case and get the pardon.<\/p>\n
