Commentary on the Revised Common Lectionary<\/h2>\n

Theology from Exile Volume 2 \u2013 The Year of Matthew: Commentary on the Revised Common Lectionary<\/em> is a worthwhile read. Sea Raven has written a commentary for the Revised Common Lectionary<\/a> (RCL). This Progressive Christian<\/a> commentary is made in a similar format as other commentaries based on the RCL. There are readings for each Sunday (which can be used individually or in combination). These readings are generally used by pastors for preparing their sermon. The advantage of using the RCL is that a pastor does not have to stress out deciding what to study.<\/p>\n

As a Southern Baptist, I have used the lectionary<\/a> (and the RCL readings) for Advent. I recently used the lectionary for a series of sermons. However, this is not my primary method of sermon preparation. As a result, I did not read every single page with complete interest. I chalked this book up to being placed on my \u201cdigital\u201d bookshelf which I would later use as a commentary resource. For the pastor who preaches through the lectionary, this book can be useful.<\/p>\n

As for the theology, it leans heavily on the themes of social justice, environmental stewardship, helping the poor, and the theological underpinnings of the Jesus Seminar. I don\u2019t agree with everything from the Jesus Seminar, nor Progressive Christianity. But that doesn\u2019t mean I can\u2019t learn something from them. As a result, I would place this commentary on my \u201calternative\u201d go-to list when I want to read a different viewpoint.<\/p>\n
