\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Book of Revelation Made Clear<\/em> by Tim LaHaye and Timothy E. Parker is a beginner\u2019s guide to the book of Revelation. There have been many guides for beginners for Revelation. Yet, this one has the distinction of giving you a quiz before each chapter begins. Then it shares the verses and then the authors give their commentary.<\/p>\n

The authors use a dispensational, pre-millennial, pre-tribulational view of the interpretation of the book of Revelation (phew! that\u2019s a lot of theology in one sentence.) What that means is this:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. They believe that God works in different ages in different ways (dispensations).<\/li>\n
  2. They believe that Jesus Christ will return and then establish His kingdom physically on Earth to reign 1000 years.<\/li>\n
  3. They believe that the church (those who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God) will be taken from the earth in a \u201crapture\u201d before God judges Israel during a time called the \u201ctribulation.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    That is heavy theology and the authors do their best to unpack it in this book. But unlike the Left Behind series, they don\u2019t go into detail about the events that happen. Yes, they describe some events, but they are just snippets of information. The authors restrict their information to just the book of Revelation. They don\u2019t spend much time reviewing other prophetic texts. That has a bad point and good point. The bad point is that as you review the book, you are not able to get much context from the Old Testament or other New Testament references to these same events. The good point is that you don\u2019t get bogged down in too much context from the Old Testament and other New Testament texts.<\/p>\n

    The book concludes with two appendices: Appendix A gives us a set of promises from the words of Jesus in Revelation 2 and 3. Appendix B gives a glossary of the names of Jesus Christ in the Bible.<\/p>\n

    For people who want to get an overall \u201cbird\u2019s-eye\u201d view of the book of Revelation, I would recommend this book. It won\u2019t all of the questions, but it will give you a good start.<\/p>\n
