What Is It?<\/h1>\n
\u201cWhen the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, \u201cWhat is it?\u201d because they didn\u2019t know what it was. Moses told them, \u201cIt is the bread the <\/span>Lord<\/span> has given you to eat.<\/span>\u201d (Exodus 16:15, HCSB)<\/p>\n
The Hebrew word man-hu<\/i>, literally means \u201cWhat is it?\u201d This is the name the people of Israel gave the bread which God provided on their way out of Egypt in the desert.<\/p>\n
This \u201cbread\u201d is strange indeed. It would only appear after the dew of the morning. When the people collected it, they had to collect what they needed for that day. If they collected too much or too little, it still was enough for the people for just that day. If people tried to keep it overnight, it would become infested with worms (not mold, not normal bread, but worms) and began to smell by morning.\u00a0I would ask \u201cwhat is it\u201d after I saw bread like this as well. This was not your normal loaf of bread.<\/p>\n
Jesus called it the bread from heaven. Moses said it was the bread that God gave for us to eat.<\/p>\n
The Israelites did not understand the idea of bread falling down from heaven, so they called it \u201cWhat is it?\u201d \u2013 in Hebrew it is translated manna.<\/p>\n
There are a variety of explanations about what manna could be (including \u201cmagic mushrooms\u201d<\/a>), but no matter what the scientific explanation, it is clear that the emphasis here is less on the food and more on the fact that God provided the food. God provided manna and also quail. God provided food everyday for His people.<\/p>\n
What is it? It is God\u2019s provision.<\/p>\n
