I\u2019ll be in the pulpit again next Sunday, this time at my own church.\u00a0 Here\u2019s the blurb I sent to Moonlady News\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Many religious liberals are attracted to the New Atheists\u2019 critique of fundamentalism and biblical literalism. Much of what they say makes good sense, and we love hearing them tell the fundamentalist emperors they have no clothes. At the same time, the New Atheists\u2019 claim that \u201creligion poisons everything\u201d doesn\u2019t match our own experiences of wonder and awe, and ignores the value of the loving communities we have built. <\/span><\/p>\n

This Sunday, August 15, John Beckett will be the lay speaker at the Denton Unitarian Universalist Fellowship<\/a>. In this service inspired by Karen Armstrong\u2019s book of the same title<\/a>, we\u2019ll look at where we are, how we got here and how we can move forward in both faith and reason.<\/span><\/p>\n

The service begins at 10:30 AM and everyone is welcome.<\/span><\/p>\n
