Johnson says the Saints won yesterday\u2019s Super Bowl because every \u201croot doctor, voodoo priest, and conjurer\u201d was working magic for New Orleans.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve never had much use for athletes who thank God for helping them beat their opponents to a bloody pulp in some athletic contest. They usually sound like they\u2019re trying to make themselves look good or proselytize for their religion instead of expressing gratitude. Though I must admit I keep hoping to hear an Olympic athlete thank Apollo or Artemis\u2026 or maybe an hammer-thrower thank Thor\u2026<\/p>\n

Praying to or thanking the Spirit of Life and Love for something as trivial as a football game seems silly, at best. If you view your gods as more personal, though (either in a Pagan context or an Evangelical Christian context) it starts to make more sense. And if you\u2019re simply working magic, simply manipulating energy, then all of a sudden this story doesn\u2019t seem so improbable\u2026 particularly when you consider how many people from how many walks of life were cheering \u2013 and working \u2013 for the Saints.<\/p>\n

Regardless of how it happened, I\u2019m happy for the Saints and the people of New Orleans and Louisiana.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
