\"\"<\/a>In case you\u2019re not aware, \u201cThe Smith Family Chronicles\u201d is a weekly episodic series I\u2019m writing and producing via the website Xtranormal.com<\/a>. Here are the episodes of the show I\u2019ve done thus far.<\/a> (You can also see them here on YouTube,<\/a> and here on \u201cThe Huffington Post.\u201d<\/a>)<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve seen \u201cThe Smith Family Chronicles,\u201d and you like it, I\u2019d like to encourage you to support it by joining\/\u201dliking\u201d the show\u2019s Facebook page.<\/a><\/p>\n

Going into doing \u201cSmith Family,\u00a0 I knew it would take six to eight episodes before people would really get what I\u2019m doing with it. It\u2019s a weird form; no one\u2019s before seen it used in this fashion; the characters sound like voice-mail message robots; I\u2019m using the show to deal with the most critical kinds of personal issues. So of course anyone would have to see a few episodes of SFC before they could sort of relax into it, and trust that it\u2019s \u2026 its own thing. (If interested, you can read more about why I\u2019m doing the series on my post, Oh the Secrets We Keep, the Lies We Tell.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

And I\u2019m deeply gratified at how much people are<\/em> getting \u201cThe Smith Family Chronicles.\u201d The response at first was slow, as expected\u2013and with each episode it\u2019s picked up considerably. I was pleased when \u201cHuffington Post\u201d got behind the series. I was pleased when Xtranormal \u201cliked\u201d SFC on its Facebook page.<\/a> I\u2019m seriously pleased that (as of this writing) 162 people have \u201cLiked\u201d the SFC Facebook page.<\/a> So it\u2019s all going as well\u2014and a little better, actually\u2014as I hoped it would.<\/p>\n

No one likes purposefully promoting their own work, and I\u2019m no different. But the fact of the matter is that each weekly episode of SFC takes me about thirty-five hours to complete. And that cannot help but mean that in order for me to keep writing and producing the series, it needs an audience large enough to warrant that degree of investment.<\/p>\n

By all of which I mean to say that if, by the time, or very soon thereafter, that I\u2019ve published the eighth episode of \u201cThe Smith Family Chronicles,\u201d I\u2019ll have to cancel the show if its Facebook page doesn\u2019t have at least five hundred members.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s it. Five hundred Facebook fans on or near episode eight, or I\u2019ll need to move on to other work. It\u2019s just like any TV show: if not enough people are watching, it\u2019s adios time for that show.<\/p>\n

<\/em>So. If you like \u201cThe Smith Family Chronicles,\u201d join\/\u201dlike\u201d the show\u2019s Facebook page<\/a>. Encourage others to do the same. Share<\/em> the show with others; that\u2019s the main thing. Share episodes from the show on your Facebook page (which of course you can do right off the show\u2019s YouTube channel.<\/a>) Email your friends and family about it. Blog about it. Tweet about it. Put it up on StubleUpon, or Reddit, or wherever else you can help get the word out about it. Do all that sort of thing. (Oh, also, if you would\u2014and again, only if you like the show and want it to continue, obviously\u2014do a starred review of the series here on its Facebook page.<\/a> But beware: the stars you choose will stick\u2014but apparently the Facebook \u201cReview\u201d app eats random accompanying word reviews. So, to be safe, do what you see others there have done: choose your stars, and then, beneath that, as a \u201ccomment,\u201d write whatever you might have to say about the show. Thank you!)<\/p>\n

If you do that sort of thing, and the audience for the show grows, and five hundred people join the show\u2019s Facebook fan page by episode eight, I\u2019ll continue this work, which I love. (Trust me: the SFC plot hasn\u2019t even started.)<\/em> If not, then zero worries, of course; then I\u2019ll just move on to some of the other wonderful work I\u2019ve got waiting in the wings.<\/p>\n
