\u201cBob\u2019s Dream\u201d is the final episode of \u201cThe Smith Family Chronicles.\u201d Here is why I\u2019ve ended the series.<\/a> (If you\u2019re not familiar with \u201cSmith Family,\u201d this video will of course make zero sense to you. You can watch all seven of the previous episodes\u00a0 here on my blog,<\/a> or on my YouTube channel.<\/a>)<\/p>\n

I loved<\/em> making each weekly SFC episode. Writing and producing them took a ridiculous amount of time, but I thought the results worth it. And though the show\u2019s Facebook page<\/a> didn\u2019t get the 500 members I thought necessary to warrant continuing the series, the great many heartfelt responses I got about \u201cSmith Family\u201d let me know that it had struck exactly the chord I\u2019d hoped it would.<\/p>\n

The show was greatly supported by the editor of the Huffington Post\u2019s Religion section<\/a>, Paul Raushenbush, who never failed to give each new episode a good showing on HuffPo. I totally appreciated that.<\/p>\n

And Xtranormal.com did an interview with me<\/a> about the series. So that, too, was fun.<\/p>\n

And now it\u2019s over! No more \u201cSmith Family Chronicles\u201d!<\/p>\n

Well. Sort of.<\/p>\n

I love the SFC characters. And I know<\/em> them. <\/em>I know their back stories, their strengths, their weaknesses, their life issues\u2014all of it. And I know the amazing and terrible things that will happen to them in their futures.<\/p>\n

This wasn\u2019t just some little knock-off project for me. For the last three or so months these, people have dominated my life and thoughts.<\/p>\n

And you haven\u2019t even met Pastor Dan!<\/p>\n

Oh, man. Dan!<\/em><\/p>\n

So right now the plan is that I\u2019m going to make my next book a novel about the people in \u201cThe Smith Family Chronicles.\u201d It will begin where the narrative of the Xtranormal videos leaves off.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s just so very, very much to explore here. And doing so in the form of a novel would of course be the richest way to do that. So that\u2019s what I\u2019m very much leaning toward doing.<\/p>\n
