We first saw this in the song \u201cMeteor Showers\u201d on his breakout album Ocean Eyes, then in the song \u201cGalaxies\u201d on All Things Bright and Beautiful, then a little bit in several tracks on The Midsummer Station. Now with the release of his latest album, Mobile Orchestra this summer, he has become even more overt about his faith with several tracks that sound tailor-made for Christian radio.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/494\/2015\/08\/s4N3H0XMuWWZSkCTqJI-iXrqo98PCfe6-Ax9PuxdC80.jpeg\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2936\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.patheos.com\/blogs\/sites\/494\/2015\/08\/s4N3H0XMuWWZSkCTqJI-iXrqo98PCfe6-Ax9PuxdC80-300x199.jpeg\" alt=\"s4N3H0XMuWWZSkCTqJI-iXrqo98PCfe6-Ax9PuxdC80\" width=\"413\" height=\"274\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There\u2019s a decidedly Christian joy that characterizes his music. It has a lightheartedness, purity, and beauty that captures the fairytale happiness of the faith that C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton spoke of. Consider the album title \u201cAll Things Bright and Beautiful\u201d \u2013 it comes from the title of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/All_Things_Bright_and_Beautiful\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">an Anglican hymn<\/span><\/a>.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">You see this in some of his unreleased recordings as well. He has a touching piano cover <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ipl-rLRxOrs\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of In Christ Alone<\/span><\/a>, and a delightful rendition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=5-KDmvvRMas\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How Deep the Father\u2019s Love for Us<\/span><\/a>. He did the song \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=l6XwmEP4E8Y\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here\u2019s Hope<\/span><\/a>\u201d for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.childhungerendshere.com\/?gclid=CKKJ_oL6v8cCFVYOjgodmXIIdA\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Child Hunger Ends Here campaign<\/span><\/a>. \u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">On his blog, he gets very open about this faith, writing about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayoungblog.com\/post\/28350089946\/the-lighted-carriage-and-the-starlit-night\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">John Piper\u2019s Desiring God<\/span><\/a>, for example, as well as posting an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayoungblog.com\/post\/32969161538\/adam-young-billions-quote-by-john-piper\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">audio excerpt from Piper<\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ayoungblog.com\/post\/44766859560\/the-itch-of-self-regard-craves-the-scratch-of\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">quoting him<\/span><\/a>.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">At the same time, however, Young has found plenty of mainstream appeal in the pop music world. \u201cFireflies\u201d was a huge hit and catapulted Young to national prominence. His hit single \u201cGood Time,\u201d a collaboration with Carly Rae Jepsen of \u201cCall Me Maybe\u201d fame, also saw heavy radio play and became a pop music staple in the summer of 2013. He\u2019s written songs for a number of animated films, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ukgvTE3A0Ic\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Legend of the Guardians<\/span><\/a> (a movie, appropriately, about owls), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qM1YMeDsc-M\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Wreck it Ralph<\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YZmxfvmuU9g\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Croods<\/span><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=95qFjwhSh_E\" class=\" decorated-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Smurfs 2<\/span><\/a>.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">It seems, then, that he has found a way to succeed as a Christian in the secular limelight, and not in a more subtle way like bands such as U2 or Switchfoot, whose faith undergirds their songs without being preachy. Young, in contrast, is as unabashedly Christian as it comes in his new song \u201cMy Everything\u201d<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Owl City - My Everything (Commentary)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YvkF7Fd0CHs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>\u201cMy everything, is my attempt at summing up how important my faith is to me, and certainly how much it influences not just the decisions I make creatively as an artist, but every area of my life, across the board.<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">My hope with this song is that it serves as an encouragement to people who might be feeling spiritually weary or tired.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It\u2019s not hard to see how his music has such a broad appeal, as it\u2019s remarkably fun and full of feel-good tunes. Even though Mobile Orchestra features My Everything and a collaboration with Contemporary Christian Music artist Britt Nicole, it also includes collaborations with mainstream artist like Jake Owen, Aloe Blacc, and Hanson.<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">While Adam Young has successfully carved out a musical niche, his accomplishments haven\u2019t seemed to affect him. His self-professed awkward and shy personality endears him to audiences and makes Adam one of the most likeable artists in the industry.
