It seems like everyone in my life drinks<\/p>\n

their breakfast.<\/p>\n

My daughters do it.<\/p>\n

My nephews do it.<\/p>\n

My editors even do it.<\/p>\n

They swear that their drinking habit is one of the healthiest things they\u2019ve ever done.<\/p>\n

Juicing they call it.<\/p>\n

When I told my daughter Konnie I couldn\u2019t wait to get home from book tour, couldn\u2019t wait to get back to a regular schedule and start eating the bounty of the garden I planted before leaving in April, Konnie suggested I start drinking my way through the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cStart your day with a yogurt smoothie,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo!\u201d I replied, emphatically. \u201cI am not drinking my Breakfast<\/p>\n

Dinner<\/p>\n

Or Supper.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s good mama,\u201d Konnie insisted.<\/p>\n

My girlfriend whom my child is named for used to drink some greenish-looking brew every day after her cancer diagnosis. Her husband would make the smoothie as an expression of his love and care for his wife. I don\u2019t know if drinking one\u2019s veggies helped but I am convinced all that devotion to one another did.<\/p>\n

Still<\/p>\n

I am not drinking<\/p>\n

my food<\/p>\n

until all my teeth fall out<\/p>\n

and the gums won\u2019t hold the dentures any longer.<\/p>\n

Until then, I plan to eat my corn on the cob<\/p>\n

and my watermelon from the rind<\/p>\n

the way God intended.<\/p>\n
