I\u2019ve been talking a lot in this blog about how Catholics should seize the opportunity to join the mainstream media and the new digital-media world and become decision-makers and influencers, and that\u2019s still vitally important. But, at the same time, the era of crowdfunding, coupled with the lowered cost of video production, offers us a chance to go it alone.<\/p>\n

A pair of twin brothers who are also consecrated Franciscan Friars of the Renewal are doing just that. From my other home, at CatholicVote<\/em> \u2026<\/p>\n

Having cut their TV teeth on EWTN\u2019s\u00a0\u201cSunday Night Prime,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0along with the show\u2019s regular host \u2014 and CFR founder \u2014 the late Father Benedict Groeschel, Brothers Angelus (the one with the glasses above) and Innocent have decided up the ante on Catholic productions.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0Catholic News Agency<\/em>\u00a0(CNA), Angelus said:<\/p>\n

Catholic media is really irrelevant right now to a lot of young people. That\u2019s a dramatic statement, but it\u2019s true. So, we wanted to wrestle with that question and wrestle with the reality that Catholic media is irrelevant to a lot of young people today.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He continued:<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s not high-quality, young people aren\u2019t going to be interested. They\u2019re used to secular media; they\u2019re used to secular TV shows; they\u2019re used to the Internet. So, we want to tell people\u2019s stories, but we also wanted it to be the highest quality we could, so that people couldn\u2019t write the show off.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

To that end, they\u2019re planning to launch \u201cIcons,\u201d a documentary series that profiles young people who, as Angelus told CNA, \u201care icons in the world. They reveal Christ in their relationships, in their work, in their vocations, in the family, whatever they do.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
